History of the region
The Taos Ski Valley Village is located in the Sangre de Cristo mountains at the southern end of the Rocky Mountains, 18 miles northeast of the town of Taos. While the community is now home to adventurous skiers and outdoorsmen, the town was once inhabited by a group of rugged miners during the 1800s.
The village resembles a European ski town (thanks to Swiss-German founder Ernie Blake) with little touches of Native American and Spanish flair. Taos is also home to a World Heritage Site (Taos Pueblo), the iconic church St. Francisco de Asis and many more tastes of authentic New Mexico culture. From fine art to gourmet cuisine, a thriving music scene and other cultural treasures, Taos offers a unique travel experience to each and every guest.
