Taos Ski Valley, Inc. operates under a special use permit with the U.S. Forest Service, part of the Department of Agriculture.
The Carson National Forest is one of five National Forests in New Mexico. Some of the finest mountain scenery in the Southwest is found in the 1.5 million acres covered by the Carson National Forest. Elevations rise from 6,000 feet to 13,161 feet at Wheeler Peak, the highest in New Mexico.

Master Plan Development Plan AMENDMENT
Taos Ski Valley and Carson National Forest recently held a Master Development Plan (MDP) Amendment Public Forum. The presentation and Q&A included an overview of the changes submitted earlier in the year as an amendment to the current MDP. The amendment included the following additions:
- Proposed Mountain Bike Trails
- Proposed "Via Ferrata"
- Proposed Nordic Ski Trails
