THE IRON PATH
The Taos Ski Valley Via Ferrata, situated at 11,500 feet in the sub-alpine ecosystem of Kachina Peak, features beginner through advanced climbing route challenges, a 100-foot skybridge, and a double-cable catwalk. Novice climbers can experience the thrill of cabled mountain travel under the supervision of a guide, and progress to vertical terrain with spectacular views of the Rio Hondo and Wheeler Peak Wilderness. A fun summer mountain activity for friends and family.

Our introduction to Via Ferrata. You will get to experience a great selection of beginner and intermediate routes, including our show-stopping traverse across a 100’ skybridge suspended 50' in the air. Along the way, our guides will share information and stories about the history, culture, and natural environment that make Taos Ski Valley so unique.
The K Chutes ROUTE
Challenge yourself on our more intermediate and advanced Via Ferrata Routes with some of the most iconic rock faces on Kachina Peak. As part of this tour, you will experience the thrill of traversing across a 30' double cable catwalk, suspended 20' in the air.

What is a via ferrata?
"Via Ferrata" is Italian for iron path, and describes a climbing route made up of steel cables, handholds, and ladders permanently fixed into the rock and used to guide participants through a designated route.
WHEN CAN YOU SCHEDULE A TOUR?
We are open 7 days a week. Weekday tours start at 9AM and 1PM, while weekends offer tours at 9AM, 11AM, and 1PM through October 10th.
Are there physical requirements to go on the via ferrata?
Guests must weigh between 88 and 264 pounds, in good physical condition, able to climb a vertical ladder, and be 12 years of age or older. Guests 10 or 11 years old may participate with a private guide.
Do I need climbing experience?
No! Via Ferratas are a great introduction to climbing, providing you a safe environment to explore the summer alpine landscape.
Do I need a guide?
Yes. All guests must have a guide to climb on the routes.
What happens if there is inclement weather?
If we are unable to start a tour, we will provide a full refund. If we have to turn back due to weather, we will offer a voucher for a future tour date.
Can I wear my own shoes?
Yes. Approach style shoes are preferred, but low-top, soft rubber athletic shoes or hiking boots are also acceptable. All shoes must be closed-toe. Kachina Sports will offer approach shoes to rent.
What is included in the price?
Tickets include the price of a rental harness, via ferrata lanyard, and helmet.
DO I NEED TO WEAR A MASK?
Not on route. Non-vaccinated guests will need a mask in all indoor spaces. We follow all state-mandated Covid-Safe Practices.
What do you recommend I bring with me?
The weather is always changing. We recommend bringing a warm layer, a waterproof jacket, water, and a few snacks.
Can I carry a backpack?
Yes! You are welcome to carry a backpack as long as fits closely to the body and has minimal hanging straps.
How long wiLL the trip take?
Each route takes about 3 hours.
How many people can be in my group?
Due to Covid-Safe Practices, groups are limited to a maximum of 5 guests and a guide.
